![]() You can switch and attack with multiple different whips to stack their effects. But if you want to challenge yourself, options here can make a playthrough more challenging without being TOO annoyingly weak & clunky. C rank:Poor options that are not worth paying attention towards if you want to optimize your Summoner build. B rank: Options that have uses worth considering to reach maximum damage output, or options that simply face a lot of competition and are outshined in general. ![]() A rank: Options that are simply viable with not much more to explain. Now for what the grades mean: S rank: Essential options to consider, these options carry Summoner and are in general some of the best options you can find in Terraria in general. Weapons with a lot of longevity & contribution throughout the game are given a lot of bonus points, especially in Hardmode. Applying to ALL options in general, their general availability and if grinding for them is worth the effort if needed, as well as longevity.Armors that also benefit multiclassing are given bonus points. For armors, their stats and set bonus first and foremost. For whips specifically, it depends on how much of an impact they make to Summoner builds through mainly summon tag & whip speed effects. And although Terraria weapons in general compete and outclasses each other, this is not nearly as relevant with pre-Hardmode minions thanks to Minion-mixing (summoning multiple different minions) being essential to counter i-frame problems and maximize your damage output during that stage of the game. For minions specifically, mainly their DPS and how often their AI allows them to reach said DPS, as well as how useful they are against regular mobs & protecting the player. But first, the mindset & rules I will rank the options in the list with: No Stardust Armor either, that's Post-Moon Lord). Somewhat based on Baconfry's hardmode weapon tier list (but with different colors), I will give a grade to all of Summoner's options from minions to whips to armor sets (I won't include sentries though, because I've never used sentries and know next to nothing about them, and most of them aren't really impactful or too useful from what I saw. With all of these changes and major buffs in mind, this skyrocketed Summoner's viability to the point it's now just as good as the other classes. A Summoner variant of Hallowed Armor was also introduced. Lastly, there are new armor sets, such as Obsidian Armor which was changed into a Summoner-focused armor that prioritizes buffing whips over minion slots. But more importantly Whips strengthen minions significantly, with some minions being reliant on Whips deal most of their DPS. Whips were also introduced, they give Summoners a method of attacking directly that don't involve using weapons from other classes. That all changed with 1.4, by not only introducing many new minions that are significantly stronger & smarter, but also buffing a ton of older minions into being actually useful. Summoner was by far the weakest class in the game, in fact it was blatantly unfinished. The majority of the minions were weak and stupid & unreliable, and there were few of them.
